Another race, another course record.  Another day at the office for Granite Hills senior Jason Finch, who, in early season action, was definitely on a big roll.
 
Finch broke his own course record, set last year, with a 15:24 on the mostly flat, 3.1-mile course. He bettered last year's time by a healthy 31 seconds, and left some quality runners far back.  Indeed, it's hard to imagine any local runner that can match strides with Finch when Finch is running as well as he is at present.

Hilltop soph Desiree Davila was similarly impressive in one of the two girls varsity races.  She ran a 12:49 in her first race of the year (for 2.2 miles), and had a 54-second cushion on Santana's Kim Pace, last year's CIF Division III champ.  Davila's time ranks second on the all-time Baron Invite list, behind Jaymie Harper's 12:44.

 Orange Glen's Lorena Jimenez took a one-sided victory in the large school girls race, running 13:07; and La Jolla's Alejandro Mares led an impressive Viking pack by winning the varsity boys small school race, in 16:33.

The La Jolla boys took four of the first five spots in the race, including Jonathan Dunbar (second in 16:37), Eric Koster (fourth in 16:50) and Nate Lopez (fifth in 16:52).  Oh, and by the way, the team was running without Brandon Behr, regarded as the team's best.
