University City's girls came up big at the Central Park Invitatiaonal at Huntington Beach on October 10.
    The win helped the UC girls get back their confidence after a bad outing at Stanford the week before.
    "We're feeling like a team again," coach Jim McCarthy said. "Everybody's happy; everybody's running really hard." Katherine Ziegler was third in 19:09 for the hilly, 3.0-mile course; and Talisha Clophus was 11th in 19:30.  Other scorers included Laura Cohen (35th, 20:25); Chessa Adsit-Morris (61st, 20:28) and Leslie Crews (90th, 20:41).  Key member Carly Votolato missed the race because of a testing conflict.
    La Jolla's girls were third in the race, led by Desiree Leek (15th, 19:56) and Liz Edwards (35th, 20:05).  Tenth-place Point Loma was headed up by Peeper Gilmore (18th, 20:03).
    Ramona's Matt McInvale and Serra's Marcus Chandler both came away with fast victories in separate races, with McInvale winning his test in 15:02, and Chandler taking his competition in 15:13.  Both continued unbeaten streaks, and set up a showdown at the next week's Southern California Invitational. La Jolla's boys, running with out a number of key athletes, were fourth in the Division II race. Chris Ferrier and Brandon Behr did not race, and Nate Lopez was slowed by a fall and a twisted ankle.
