Serra's Marcus Chandler and Fallbrook's Efrain Casarez ran the second and third fastest boys times of the day at the loaded Laguna Hills Invitational on Sept. 12.
A number of powerhouse Southern Section teams were on hand, such as Santa Ana and Long Beach Poly.
A Santa Ana runner had the day's fastest clocking (15:11) over the 3.0 mile course, which was described by Fallbrook coach Marty Hauck as "about 30-40 seconds slower than Dana Hills."
Chandler was the second fastest on the day with a 15:31, and Casarez was timed in 15:35. Both won their respective races, which were separated by divisions and grade levels.
The Fallbrook boys were second in the large schools junior race, with Casarez leading the way.
The San Marcos boys team, spread out in different races, also racked up some good times. They had three runners faster than Fallbrook's number two.
Best of San Diego's girls was Fallbrook senior Cathy Picha, who was third in the large schools junior/senior race in 19:10, which was the sixth fastest overall time of the day.
The Fallbrook freshmen girls were second in team scoring in the large schools frosh race, led by Maija Rohde's second-place finish in 19:50.
