The season's first invitational was dominated by the girls team from Rancho Bernardo and the boys team from host West Hills.
RB's Sean Ricketts and Helix's Courtney Baird had the fastest times of the day, as grade-level races were staged under overcast skies and in mild temperatures.
The RB girls team, a powerhouse, placed five runners in the fastest ten of the day, led by junior Julie Manson. Other quick Broncs were soph Kaleena Yee, frosh Allison Hall, soph Katie Boyd and senior Sarah Wilkins.
Baird, coming off a great summer of cross-training, looked confident and relaxed in her race, winning by 1:01. Second fastest runner of the day was Francis Parker soph Angela Petersen, with RB's Manson the third fastest. All were in separate races. Fastest girls frosh was Rancho Buena Vista's efficient-striding Natassja Hall.
The West Hills boys, also a top team, were similarly dominant in the boys races, with six of the ten fastest times. The fastest of the Wolfpack was junior Evan Fox. Other West Hills runners in the day's top ten included soph Ben Aragon, senior Paul Saccone, senior Matt Rendina, junior Dan Sutton-Kane and senior Tim Rodman.
Fox and RB's Ricketts hooked up in the boys junior race, with Ricketts opening up a 10-second gap in mid-race. It was one of the more competitive races on a day that saw a number of blowouts.
