WILDCATS WIN

>From Dave Ponas via Doug Speck

Oakland High's Cross Country team had a historic day at
Joaquin Miller Park Wednesday November 18th.  For the first time
ever both Oakland boys and girls won the OAL Championships.  And
we topped this monumental achievement with Oakland's J.V. team
winning also.  So it's on to Fresno for the California
Interscholastic  Federation State Championships.  The girls were
crowned champions with their 26-29 win over Skyline.  A close
race as Wildcat runners Karen Chan, Sherry Duong and Josefina
Padilla locked up 3rd, 4th, and 5th  place, all beating Skyline's
number two runner by over one minute.  Mariana Anaya, Lesly
Yasol, and Lizette Martinez secured the win with powerful runs.
On the boy's side, the Wildcats dominated, taking five of the
first seven places to defend their OAL title.  Lead by Jeremy
Chuck, 2nd, and James Fortune, 3rd.  The boys posted a 18-36 win.
Jeadi Vilches and Benedict Janea collected All-City honors.
Dario Mutabdzija ran possessed to beat Skyline and held down our
5th spot in 7th place.

care of Dave Ponas - this should give you something to chew on as we look to
Fresno next weekend.

Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Oakland athletes all run in Division I (in
response to question or two about that). Everyone else chooses to not
discriminate against small peoples schools and allows them to run where they
fall in enrolllment.
