Photos From The 1998 CIF Masters Meet

Kathleen Donoghue, Rancho Bernardo. Donoghue, a junior, clears a low height on way to second place finish at Masters Meet. She later PR'd with a 12-4 clearance at the State Meet, and finished third there.

Natalie Dennison, Rancho Bernardo. Dennison, a junior, was third in the Masters Meet with a PR of 11-2, which qualified her for the State Meet and led to a 1-2-3 Rancho Bernardo sweep.

Julie Stuart, Grossmont. A senior, she had a PR of 11-8 this year.

Andria Booker, El Camino. Booker won three events at the Masters Meet, including the long jump. She later jumped 19-6.5 at the State Meet and medalled there.  She got her PR of 40-11.5 to win the Masters Meet triple jump, and a week later defended her state title in that event.

Mishaela White, Hilltop. Had a PR of 17-6.5 in long jump.

Tamara Espinoza, Hilltop. One of a trio of 17-foot long jumpers for Hilltop; she had best of 17-10. In the triple she had a yearly best of 39-5 at the Masters Meet to briefly take the lead, before Andria Booker reclaimed it.

Latanya Agurs, Grossmont. Talented senior was a top jumper, with best of 17-6 in long and 39-0.5 in triple.

Eric Hollins, Escondido. Great senior talent had injury problems at Masters Meet, and qualified for State Meet only in triple jump, arguably his fourth-best event.

Charles James, Morse. Finished year on a high note, with a 23-9.5 jump at state to claim second there.

Adrienne Farrington, Rancho Bernardo. Junior comes through in big meets, had bests of year of 17-10 and 38-8.75. She PR'd at 38-8.75 in Masters Meet triple jump to take third spot on a tie-breaker with Latanya Agurs.

LaRonda Hite, Lincoln. Had best jump of 18-4, qualified for state.

University City's DeAndre Douglas puts it into overdrive as Morse's Ike Okenwa throws up hands after missing the last pass in Masters Meet 400 Meter Relay. UC ran a section all-time record of 40.66 in meet; Morse was on track to also run well under 41.0 seconds.

Morse's Tiffany Freow holds on to lead to win Masters 400 Meter Relay. The injury-weakened Tigers ran 47.50, well off their season best, to beat Lincoln (47.65), Mount Miguel (48.03) and Rancho Bernardo (48.55).

Hoover's Candace Hill. The soph won Masters Meet in shot, had best of 38-5.

Serra's Marcus Chandler, Vista's Justin Neuroth and Monte Vista's Jon Rankin close fast to take the top three spots in a tactical 1600 at the Masters Meet. The winning time was 4:21.28 after a slow first half. All three runners return next year. Chandler later ran 4:15.77 in the state finals.

El Camino's Andria Booker clears last hurdle on her way to a section record of 14.49 at the Masters Meet. Calvin Christian's Greta Tucker ran 15.49 for fifth.

Mount Miguel was 1-3 in the Masters 110-high hurdles. Raymond Wells was first in 14.45, and Dustin Hollins was third in 14.61. Wells also won the 300-hurdles.

At finish of 400 Meters in Masters Meet, it's San Pasqual senior J. R. Price (fifth), San Diego junior Maurice Douglas (second) and Rancho Buena Vista senior Arthur Orange (first). Orange ran 47.77. Douglas later ran 47.69 in a summer meet.

It was a tight finish as Torrey Pines' Camille Dredge, Valhalla's Lesley Bravin and Coronado's Samantha Piper take the first three spots in a tactical 800 meters at the Masters Meet. Bravin's winning time was 2:16.19. All three runners have faster PRs; all will return next year.

University City's Devon Ward (21.07), can't quite catch Morse's Ike Okenwa (20.97) in 200 Meters at Masters Meet. Okenwa's great effort was an all-time section record, and he was the first local to dip under 21.0 seconds. UC's Steve Hayes was fourth in 21.45, a great soph time.

Heading into backstretch of the second lap of the Masters Meet 800 Meters, Mira Mesa's Hong Castejon and West Hills' Evan Fox chase West Hills' Dustin Diaz. Diaz, who had a best of 1:52.91 going into the meet, suffered from a foot injury and finished fourth. Fox, a soph, was third, running 1:54.96. Rancho Bernardo's Sean Ricketts ran 1:53.51 to win the Masters 800 Meters, just nipping Kearny's Mohamah Aden, who ran 1:53.61. Ricketts is a soph; Aden is a junior who has just taken up the sport.

Scripps Ranch's Kelly Grimes and Rancho Bernardo's Julie Manson jockey for second in the 3200 at Masters Meet. In an exciting finish, Grimes finished in the runner-up spot in 11:13.25, and Manson was fourth, running 11:13.55. Escondido's Lanele Cox slipped between the pair at the last instant, taking third place.

Francis Parker's Angela Petersen is all alone on her way to 10:58.67 clocking in the Masters Meet 3200. She's a freshman.

The pack closes up at the mid-point of the Masters 3200. Ramona's Matt McInvale, West Hills' Don Overland-McKay, Granite Hills' Jason Finch and Mt. Carmel's Mike Baskin lead the way. Baskin won the race, and later ran 9:10.43 at the State Meet.

Serra's Marcus Chandler runs 9:22.92 to take third in the Masters 3200. He later dropped the event to concentrate on the 1600 at state.

El Camino's David Romero-Young was fourth in the Masters 3200, running 9:28.02, just catching a tiring Matt McInvale of Ramona. Romero-Young qualified to run at the state meet with his effort, after third-placer Marcus Chandler scratched from the event.
