Team Scores:
There are several ways to score cross country meets but traditionally the place- displace method is used. Most early season club races and many girls races use the top 3 finishers to score and the next 2 finishers to displace. In other words you add up the finish places of the top 3 finishers from each team to get the final score. The displacers aren't scored but they "push-back" the finish places of the other team; these runners are also called "pushers." Any runner from any given team with more than the specified total number of team members (in this case 5) are ignored in the results. Also ignored for the sake of scoring are any finishers on a team that finished fewer than the minimum number of scorers (in this case 3). The column above called TmPl shows the finish place of the runners actually used for scoring. Larger cross country races and high school races use this same method but instead of 3 scorers and 2 pushers there are 5 scorers and 2 pushers. The team results are scored both ways below.
